Correct me here if I am really wrong. There are approximately 6.97 million Filipinos abroad. Of this total, 2.04 million are on overseas employment contracts. Over 2 million of these are landbased while the rest are seas-based. There are also 2.15 million Filipinos, or of Filipino lineage, who are permanently residing in various countries; about 1.88 million are undocumented. Whew! some statistics ha? don't worry too much on this.


The question now is, "do we have to feel betrayed" pag ating antiyan malilyare? Or do we have to hate the system?

What I have heard, Filipinos working for the Saudis, Bahrain atbp. There's even a place called Filipino Market where bargain shoppers gets a field day. The restaurants were almost the same back home (Philippines) except there's no pork in the menu. Most of them are very happy to make the money that they could never earned back in the Philippines. Little things that I know he is the Simon impersonator (in a complimented way that is). Everyone is cheering and yelling what song he should sing, some yelling "The Boxer" some says, "Anak" and so he did... he mixed the two songs... hay nakuuuu.. (which by the way the Anak is not even recorded)

Walk around Chinatown this week and you'll find an interesting fruit that looks like a small potato. It's called chico, but many may also know it as sapodilla. It's a favorite among Filipinos, but will be somewhat exotic-tasting for those trying it for the first time.
The basics: Chico, also called sapodilla or naseberry in Jamaica and the Caribbean, is the fruit of a large tropical evergreen. It is egg-shaped with a fuzzy brown exterior similar to kiwi fruit. Inside are two black seeds surrounded by a slightly granular flesh, which ranges from tan to pinkish-brown and has a sweet taste similar to brown sugar or maple syrup. The flavor is also similar to Fuyu persimmons.

Sapodilla is native to South and Central America and was introduced to the Philippines by the Spanish. The sap of the sapodilla tree was traditionally extracted to make chicle, an early form of chewing gum. Chico is now grown throughout the Philippines, Indonesia, India and the Caribbean and is a good source of potassium and vitamin C.

Selecting: Choose fruit that is smooth and free of dark spots. It should give slightly to pressure. Watch out for shriveled or wrinkled skin or fruit that is too soft -- sure signs that it's overripe.

Storing: Chico can be eaten only when fully ripe. If hard, leave it out for a couple of days until it begins to soften. You can then refrigerate it for a couple of days.

Use: Rinse fruit before consuming. Cut in half diagonally and remove seeds. Spoon out flesh from skin or peel. Chico is generally eaten as is, but the flesh can be blended with a tropical fruit juice for a refreshing drink.

SUBJECT: "PINOY" and "FLIP" are RACIAL SLURS FROM: ROBERTO REYES MERCADO, a member of the Media Breakfast Club We notice that quite a few participants in this newsgroup like to call themselves "Pinoys" and/or "Flips" in their postings. They think these are cute terms of endearment. Well, they are dead wrong. According to our research, some American soldiers started the use of "Flip" as a racial slur during the Filipino-American War (1899-901). "Flip" is the equivalent of the "N" word that is derogatory to Black Americans. "Pinoy" on the other hand came about when some workers from the Bicol Region were "imported" by American farms in the early 1900s. Whenever these Bicolanos were asked by strangers where they came from, some of them answered, "P.I., noy." Many Bicolanos up to now like to end their sentences with "Noy," which is short for "Nonoy" (the term for the youngest sibling or son). "P.I.," of course, meant the Philippine Islands, which was the official American name of the archipelago at that time. Some of their fellow workers from the other regions of the Philippines started mocking the Bicolano answer. They would announce, "Eto na si 'P.I., noy,'" ("Here comes the guy who always answers 'P.I., noy'") when they would see a Bicolano worker about to approach them. Since there is no long "I" in any Filipino dialect, "P.I." was corrupted to a short "I" as in "pee." Some Americans noticed this "P.I., noy" ribbing and they thought that it was the colloquial term for a Filipino. So some of these Americans started using the term, especially when they cursed the Filipino workers. In fact this practice extended even to the waning days of World War II. Some Filipino veterans told of incidents when some American officers called, and even cursed, them as "Pee-noys." The Filipino and Filipino-American members of the Media Breakfast Club (MBC) of Los Angeles do not like to be called "Pinoys." They also consider "Flip" an insult. We think they are racially-offensive terms. We do not understand why some Americans of Philippine ancestry like to call their men "Pinoys," their women "Pinays" and their former homeland "Pinas." They have beautiful names in "Filipino," "Filipina" and "Filipinas," respectively. This is a free country, of course, and people have the basic right to make fools of themselves. Incidentally "Filipino" is always spelled with an "F," unless you refer to the national language, which is "Pilipino," as the present Philippine constitution provides. According to Poet-pundit Fred Burce Bunao, an MBC co-founder, the reason some Filipino Americans like to spell "Filipino" with a "P" is to mask their inability to pronounce the "F."

The Da Vinci Code : My Take (joas chavez)
Should a reader of this book take it as a Fact or Fiction?

SUMMARY:

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown there is no doubt that is a best seller on the fiction list; however, the author clearly states that the story takes place in the context of factual events, places, organizations and rituals. Within 2years it has become a bestseller in 150countries and one of the most widely read books of our time. To enhance the credibility of this claim, Brown includes not only fictional characters in his plot, but real people (both past and present) who will be readily recognized by the book's audience. Art and Symbols, I wish I can Point out the paintings at ala tamung space for that. Brown said he had never noticed this before. Then the professor told them the cup was in the painting but it wasn’t a drinking cup, it was a person. That person he was told was Mary Magdalene who was seated in the painting beside Jesus. There is no credible evidence that Leonardo Da Vinci and Isaac Newton were secretly involved in the Priory of Sion, and there is only fraudulent evidence that the Priory of Sion was formed to keep "the secret of Mary Magdalene." Concerning whether Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene, they (scholars and theologians) come to no solid conclusions those interviewed him who believe as Brown, tried to find Biblical evidence by pointing to the Gospel account to Mary trying to touch Jesus after his resurrection and His telling to her to "Stop clinging to me (John 20:17) And you can see some of the paintings about this. Some believe this to be an indication of intimacy indicating the two were married. And we do know that Mary spend a lot of time with Jesus. According to one Scholar from Theological Seminary "was just her single act of devotion given to him without concern about what people are thinking about what she is doing." Most of the Biblical Scholars agree on this, and found out that the "scene in the garden might point to an intimate relationship between Mary Magadalene and Jesus.

Conclusions:

What found is that some of the claims the book makes are simply not credible and some of the claims have been made before. But there are some surprising truths behind the story of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, and Leonardo Da Vinci.

Beyond being a page-turning thriller, Brown's novel seems to be little more than a well-crafted, cleverly written 454-page diatribe against Christianity, especially its Roman Catholic sector. There she found safe refuge in the Jewish community. It was here in France that she gave birth to a daughter. Her name was Sarah.” (p 255)

“The quest for the Holy Grail is literally the quest to kneel before the bones of Mary Magdalene. A journey to pray at the feet of the outcast one, the sacred feminine.” (p.257)

The Grail story is everywhere, but it is hidden. You see, religion is a soo deep within us and if we touch the Faith of others it becomes too sensitive and personal. Misinterpretation and misunderstaning will kick in so, no matter how you write it will always be misunderstood. especially on eMail because, we cannot express our emotions. I didn't say that no one had no right to state their opinion. Sure, they do (no matter how uneducated it is...that's my opinion )

Church Teaching:
Ing Church always TRIES to deliver the teaching of Christ to the best way it can and the best way it know how to. Ing karelang mensahe is about charity , sanctity of human life , peace , love for fellow men, and the way to spiritual salvation .
Wa, TUTU, the Catholic church teaches us to do other Christian faiths, but that has nothing to do, to command your life and you have the right to stand up and quesition! for only in questioning, can find the truth and faith. The best way to learn is to ask.
I do believe Catholic teach how to respect other religions not to attach them. It is true that the Catholic church used to believe that it is there is one true religion and that the only way to heaven is through Catholicism , that teaching was abolished way back in the sixties when Vatican II began. It is with deep regret and sorrow that I have to inform everyone Jeffrey Castro's Wife Tess Alberto Camba Castro, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004.
There is no death for such as she. There are no last words of love. The ages to come will revere her name. Her friendship, her character and as wife, will go on to brighten the pathway and bless the lives of all her friends and families.
Her character was well poised; she did not emphasize one characteristic to the exclusion of others; she showed to her nephews and nieces the real beauty of a true life for she was love by them including my Children. This was the impression which she made upon all who knew her, and leaving her presence one would say, "How humble she is!".
She has not only blessed us in the legacy of her life, but she has left us the dearest legacy of her love of family and specially to her Husband, Jeffrey.
Those of us who knew her best knew that she was all this and more; that she was one of the most home-making and home-loving of women. To her home her heart always turned with tenderest longing, and for the one who made home possible she felt the most devoted love and gratitude.
She will be be remembered forever, she shall be alive forever, She shall be speaking forever, The whole family of Laquian/Castro and Alberto/Camba.
Tess, will be hear forever.
